Now for the second year, the Madison Public Library has partnered with IRIS Global Connect and the Wisconsin International Resource Consortium to bring the world to YOU through the Children’s International Story Hour (CISH)!

CISH will be in the new Imagination Center Library from 4-5pm on the third Monday of every month, October-May (except December-January).

This will be a time of sharing award-winning children’s literature that celebrates the diversity of arts, culture, and language across the globe. Participants will learn about global music and engage in hands-on crafts that stimulate their curiosity. Each month promises to be fun and enriching!

This event is free and designed for children ages 5-10 and their caregivers. All are welcome.

by Ana Cristina Herreros (Author), Violeta Lopiz(Illustrator)

Country: Spain

Does every country have a tooth fairy? Well, in Spain and other Spanish- speaking countries, it happens to be a tooth mouse, and this is his story! Long ago, throughout the Spanish-speaking world, the tooth mouse brought children their permanent teeth, strong and straight as a mouse’s. Tracing the tooth mouse’s beginnings through to his descendants, this book artfully weaves the tooth mouse’s changing habits as the world industrializes, with the growing independence of the child, as teeth fall out and the child learns to care for itself.

It’s also a playful, thought-provoking history of our changing world–as even tooth mice and children must adapt their customs when faced with the culture-shifting forces of urbanization, migration, and capitalism…

Just remember, magic can always be recovered, and the real gift in losing baby teeth is growing up!
